New Techniques in Metabolic Bone Disease

Seventeen articles (each accompanied by a short abstract) view the major metabolic diseases that affect bones, and present a description of the British experience in research and clinical practice as these diseases, particularly osteoporosis, have become recognized as major, widespread health problems. Particular emphasis is given to techniques used in both research and clinical practice, such as isotopic scanning, photon absorptiometry, bone biopsy, and bone culture. Coverage includes the physiology and management of such diseases as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and Paget's disease; and one chapter discusses the use of hormone replacement therapy.
